To Read or Not to Read
To not read is not an option for many,
though one wishes it was not an option for all. I personally prefer non-fiction works, especially historical and biographical, similar to these recent reads I have pictured here.
One can partake in unimaginable
journeys through a plethora of historic time periods and never leave their
chair.
Books provide vacations of a minimal
cost and travels filled with the maximum of adventures, and one book generally
leads to many more.
If one is into 'classics', many can be
found at Amazon for your Kindle . . . for free.
A few ‘reading’ quote to ponder:
“A reader lives a thousand lives before
he dies, said Jojen. The man who never reads lives only one.”
―
George R.R. Martin, A Dance with Dragons
“In reading the lives of great men, I
found that the first victory they won was over themselves... self-discipline
with all of them came first.”
―
Harry S Truman
“You don't have to burn books to
destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.”
―
Ray Bradbury
“Books are a uniquely portable magic.”
— Stephen King
“I can shake off everything as I write;
my sorrows disappear, my courage is reborn.”
— Anne Frank
“It is the writer who might catch the
imagination of young people, and plant a seed that will flower and come to
fruition.”
— Isaac Asimov
“When I look back, I am so impressed
again with the life-giving power of literature. If I were a young person today,
trying to gain a sense of myself in the world, I would do that again by
reading, just as I did when I was young.”
— Maya Angelou
“Words can be like X-rays if you use
them properly — they’ll go through anything. You read and you’re pierced.”
— Aldous Huxley
“I'm very shy really. I spend a lot of
time in my room alone reading or writing or watching television.”
―
Johnny Cash
