50 Year Anniversary - Alcatraz Escape

Yes, June 11 marks 50 years since the escape of inmates Clarence Anglin, John Anglin and Frank Morris from United States Penitentiary, Alcatraz Island.

For years, perhaps your lifetime, it was claimed that this feat was not possible, even though 'the godfather of fitness', Jack LaLanne, swam from Alcatraz Island to Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco while handcuffed in 1955 at the age of 41 and repeated the feat in 1974 at the age of 60 handcuffed, shackled and towing a 1,000-pound boat. So, the trip to Angel Island in a raincoat raft ????

Mythbusters (eighth episode - December 12, 2003) tested the feasibility of escaping Alcatraz on a makeshift raft and judged it to be possible.

"According to a 2011 program on the National Geographic Channel, investigators had found footprints leading away from the raft on Angel Island, and had also identified a car stolen that night, contrary to the FBI report."

How about you... would you make the attempt?

Cost to U.S. Taxpayers for this Marshals Hunt? And if these 3 are found, does the Federal Prison System have an Assisted Living Care Unit? So basically their out there still wasting tax payers money chasing nothing.

Yes, the cost to U.S. taxpayers keeps growing. And as one documentary pointed out, the hunt for these types of criminals does not stop until the hunted prey turns 100 years of age - files remain open.
